writing reflection

Ideas and Content
My writing is very detailed in some parts and usually makes a lot of sense. I my julius caesar essay I focused on my topic that was brutus throughout the entire essay , I wrote most of the conflicts brutus had throughout the book and what he did to overcome this problems , this made me understand the character a little bit more and it helped me for the further understanding of the topic. I added quotes and important paragraphs to explain my thinking.
Organization
the organization in my julius caesar essay was good ,I had an introduction that explained the conflict in the book , and I added quotes too to explain my character better.I think I could have worked better on my thesis statement that was on my introduction and it was hard for the reader to identify it. There were times were I did not explain my quotes leaving the reader with the not knowing what the quote was about . I think that overall my main Idea of the conflict was good and also my paragraphs were clear they related to my characters main conflict in the book . I think that my organization could have improve by making my thesis statement clearer .
Personal Growth
I think not because it was harder for me to understand the english of the book and sometimes I didn't know what the characters of the book were really talking about . In the alchemist it was easier for me to understand the context of the book and the main Idea. overall my alchemist essay was better than my julius caesar essay
SLR Reflection
I chose “Reason Critically” for my SLR because I spend most of my time in search for the ideas and content section of the essay. Part of my search was to look for good quotations that fit with my argument and help support it.

JC essay

Brutus

“God knows I value my honor more than I fear death” . Brutus comes from a family of the most honorable people of Rome so its up to him to follow the same path his ancestors took. Brutus will only do things in a honorable way and only if they are honorable, what really drives Brutus is Rome and the Republic and he will do anything to keep Rome, even kill . Caesar threatened the Republic by wanting to be king he was told to be ambitious, then the conspirators that wanted to safe Rome from another cruel leader killed Caesar, one of the conspirators was Brutus, . Brutus killed Caesar in order to keep the republic and everyone free but was the killing of Caesar done in a honorable way, well that’s what Brutus thinks.

Brutus loves Rome and the freedom there is in it and he wants to keep it that way, “Freedom” is was pushes Brutus forward he wants freedom for Rome and the people . Brutus is motivated by this because Rome had a king before and the people fought to throw him away and they did after that the people of Rome didn’t want anymore kings and that’s how Rome became a republic , Brutus as the people doesn’t want Rome to be ruled by another king and throughout the story he fights to keep the republic together . Brutus killed Caesar because he was ambitious and they thought he would become a tyrant “Let’s all cry peace , freedom and liberty” Brutus said this when he killed Caesar as if Caesar would take those things away form them, they thought that if they killed Caesar they would protect their freedom. This quote shows that Brutus will do anything to keep their freedom. Brutus tells the people about Caesars ambition and how he was threatening the republic “Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves” This means that Brutus was certain that Caesar wanted to be a tyrant or that’s what he thought so he wants the people to understand that he did it for them and their freedom. This shows how Brutus cares about the people being free. Brutus loves freedom and that’s what he wants for the people no matter what is in his way he will fight for it and do anything it takes .

Caesar was told to be ambitious and he threatened the republic of Rome , Brutus didn’t take any chances and killed him. Freedom and Honor were Brutus main motivations in this story that keep him pushing forward. Brutus would fight anyone that threatened the republic in order to keep freedom and only if it was honorable and for the good of Rome. Brutus did not reach his goal he killed Caesar but cause of that there was war in all the parts of Italy separating the country and destroying Rome. He did achieve his goal because he thought about the outcome of one thing

But not of the whole act he didn’t expect the things that happened to happen. I thing the act was worthy because Brutus did kill Caesar but he created a war that separated Rome and destroyed it to pieces.

collage reflection

Think Creatively!
The creative aspects my collage has is its letters I took from the news paper to make my six word memoir . other creative aspect my collage has is the words that are in the collage are taken from the news paper or magazines in order to create my six word memoir

Reason Critically!
I used pictures of boys to represent the age the lost boys had when this happened and blood to represent the massacre that occurred in sudan . In my collage I used strong words to represent the things the lost boys passed through and the hard times they had in Sudan. My pictures are all kind of dark I mean by all the guns and pictures of people killing, I did this to show the things that happened in Sudan and the mood the lost boys felt in Sudan

Communicate Effectively!
My collage creates awareness mostly because of the pictures because my pictures are very strong it tells you what the lost boys had to overcome and it makes you feel empathy for them.

Live Ethically!
My collage has very strong pictures and words that might cause the person who is seeing it to feel sorry and empathy for the lost boys because after seeing the pictures they see what the lost boys had to overcome. My collage makes you want to help after all the bad things you saw that happened to the lost boys.

Peter the lost boy of Sudan

At the beginning peter was very excited about him moving to America he thought that America would be heaven not knowing about the difficulties he would face once he gets there. Peter had friends in the refugee camp in Kenya but he left them behind when he moved to America to start a new life. After long hours of flying they were finally in Houston(America) they were all excited and curious about what their new life was going to be like , they were taken to their new house were they were going to life in , they were told that the company was only going to pay the rent for 1 month so that they could get a job and later pay by them self . some of the refugees started working in factories or supermarkets while others were still looking for something to do , the refugees that did work had to pay the rent of the place they were living in . Peter didn't find any opportunities in Houston so he decided to move to Kansas to see what opportunities he would find there . Peter decides to finish high school . The first problem Peter faced was time , he had to manage school time and working time because he needed the money to send to his friends back home and for him . The other problem was that he had to deal with stereotypes, like when he was working and he was told to work outside because he was African and he is used to the heat , this were the kind of stereotypes Peter had to deal with and other problem Peter had to deal with was fitting in a community that is not really used to people like him. In Sudan is very common that men would grab their hands and thing like that and there is normal but in America if you do that you would be called "strange" Peter and his friends stopped grabbing hands and things like that so they could fit in . The culture in Sudan is very different to the one in US and people like Peter have to deal with changes like this only to fit in into the community.

Julius caesar

My passage is about Cassius trying to convince Brutus to join his conspiracy agains caesar . Cassius tells Brutus stories about caesar that made him look weak and not worthy of the position. This passage is important because it shows that cassius hates caesar and he wants to start a conspiracy.

Act one , scene 2
pag32 lines 89-129

I know that virtue to be in you, Brutus,
As well as I do know your outward favour.
Well, honour is the subject of my story.
I cannot tell what you and other men
Think of this life; but, for my single self,
I had as lief not be as live to be
In awe of such a thing as I myself.
I was born free as Caesar; so were you:
We both have fed as well, and we can both
Endure the winter's cold as well as he:
For once, upon a raw and gusty day,
The troubled Tiber chafing with her shores,
Caesar said to me 'Darest thou, Cassius, now
Leap in with me into this angry flood,
And swim to yonder point?' Upon the word,
Accoutred as I was, I plunged in
And bade him follow; so indeed he did.
The torrent roar'd, and we did buffet it
With lusty sinews, throwing it aside
And stemming it with hearts of controversy;
But ere we could arrive the point proposed,
Caesar cried 'Help me, Cassius, or I sink!'
I, as Aeneas, our great ancestor,
Did from the flames of Troy upon his shoulder
The old Anchises bear, so from the waves of Tiber
Did I the tired Caesar. And this man
Is now become a god, and Cassius is
A wretched creature and must bend his body,
If Caesar carelessly but nod on him.
He had a fever when he was in Spain,
And when the fit was on him, I did mark
How he did shake: 'tis true, this god did shake;
His coward lips did from their colour fly,
And that same eye whose bend doth awe the world
Did lose his lustre: I did hear him groan:
Ay, and that tongue of his that bade the Romans
Mark him and write his speeches in their books,
Alas, it cried 'Give me some drink, Titinius,'
As a sick girl. Ye gods, it doth amaze me
A man of such a feeble temper should
So get the start of the majestic world
And bear the palm alone.

who would I be in the school of athens?

In this drawing I would be Plato.Plato is one of the most important Greek philosophers. He founded the Academy in Athens, an institution devoted to research and instruction in philosophy and the sciences. His works on philosophy, politics and mathematics were very influencial and laid the foundations for Euclid's systematic approach to mathematics. choose this person because is a very spiritual person also because he helped civilization push foward with great discoveries

how can art be a mirror of society?

Painting can be a mirror of society in many ways. In the middle ages we could see that the church had the power therefore the paintings where all religious this showed how people was being controlled by religion. By the Time of the renaissance the church began to lose power and people became more humanist , paintings where about studies this shows how people in the time of the renaissance was more interested in studies . Drawings capture a certain place or moment and that place is like a photo that would tell what was happening in that moment.

I think Da Vinci was a true renaissance man . A renaissance man was a person that is really good is a lot of areas like art, science etc. The renaissance was the rebirth of Europe, reborn of knowledge , art, ideas architecture . Da Vinci did all of this things he had new ideas , he had knowledge, he was a great artist and he was also an architect. In the trip I saw all of this things such as art and new inventions that I was very impress with because they were very advanced for that time and I learned that Da Vinci was a true genius probably the smartest man in the time of the renaissance.

Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?
Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

- One of the last notes left behind by Gandhi in 1948, expressing his deepest social thought.

In January 1948, before three pistol shots put an end to his life, Gandhi had been on the political stage for more than fifty years. He had inspired two generations of India, patriots, shaken an empire and sparked off a revolution which was to change the face of Africa and Asia. To millions of his own people, he was the Mahatma- the great soul- whose sacred glimpse was a reward in itself. By the end of 1947 he had lived down much of the suspicion, ridicule and opposition which he had to face, when he first raised the banner of revolt against racial exclusiveness and imperial domination. His ideas, once dismissed as quaint and utopian ,had begun to strike answering chords in some of the finest minds in the world. "Generations to come, it may be", Einstein had said of Gandhi in July 1944, "will scarcely believe that such  one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon earth."

peace is one of the qualities that every man in this world should have and should fight for because peace is what will make this world a better place.

my personification poem

Destiny

Destiny paces the desert

in his cloak, full of dreams

leaving the fear of failure behind

The book The alchemist is all about the destiny of a boy. Destiny is something you always wanted to accomplish and that it will make you happy . Some people don't want to realize their destiny because is to hard for them to accomplish because they are scared of failure but some people just leave their fear behind while searching for their destiny because they know that there is a treasure waiting for them.

my journey

“I’m an adventurer looking for my treasure” Ever since Santiago was child he had wanted to know the world, and this was much more important to him than knowing God and learning about man’s sins. Santiago always wanted to be an adventurer, he wanted to travel everywhere and he finally does what he wants when pursuing his destiny. At the beginning of The Alchemist Santiago was a simple shepherd in Andalusia, until he decides to follow his destiny to find a treasure in Egypt, he is told to follow his destiny by melchizedek a messenger of god , at the beginning Santiago thinks is just a joke but he realizes that melchizedek was telling the truth and that he should follow his destiny so that’s what he does he decides to follow his destiny and starts his journey to Egypt . Santiago is a truly spiritual character as he learns new things from other characters in the book; the three traits that helped Santiago reach his destiny were that he is observant, brave and loving.

Santiago was observant. Like the wisest men once told a boy, “The secret of true happiness is to see all the marvels of the world and never forget the drops of the oil spoon”. Santiago had to observe everything around him, looking for omens, things that could help him find his destiny and follow the path that god gave him. Santiago watched everything to learn new things from it, like when he was in the desert “The caravan and the desert speak the same language, and it’s for that reason that the desert allows crossing. It’s going to test the caravan.” (Coelho page 75) he observed the caravan day and night and see what he could learn from it. Santiago learned more things observing than with books. “I’ve seen how the guides read the songs of the desert, and how the soul of the caravan speaks to the soul of the world”. (Coelho page 76) Santiago always observed everything but he never forgot to pursue his destiny.

Santiago learned to be brave and make new choices in his life that were uncomfortable; he had to get out of his comfort zone to reach his destiny. From the beginning he took risks by leaving his sheep and venture to the unknown world, he was also brave when he was in Tangier and he got robbed by the thieve, he decided to push on and to keep following his destiny when he knew that he could just take a boat back to Spain. Santiago’s bravery was put into test was when he first met the alchemist and when he went to tell the chieftains about his visons knowing that they could just kill him “Courage is the quality most essential to understanding the soul of the world”. Santiago become’s brave to be able to listen to his heart because the only way to listen to yours heart is to not be afraid of failure“ my heart is afraid that it will have to suffer”. Santiago was afraid that there would be no treasure that all this time it was just a lie, and that kept him from not listening to his heart, but then Santiago realizes that he shouldn’t be afraid of failure because his heart told him that “ Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him.” After that Santiago started to listen to his heart and became brave because he knew that there was a treasure waiting for him in Egypt.

During his journey Santiago seeks love “I came to tell you just one thing” the boy said, “ I want you to be my wife, I love you” Santiago first love was the merchants daughter then he has to leave her so he can pursuit his destiny, then he meets Fatima in Alfayoum that’s the true love for Santiago, he finally meets the love of his life now what Santiago has to do is find his Destiny. At the beginning Santiago didn’t want to leave Fatima he just wanted to stay with her ”That’s why I want you to continue toward you goal” Santiago decided to listen to Fatima and continue his journey towards getting his treasure “Love changes the world”.

Conclusion: Santiago was a truly special character in the book he was observant because he watched the world around him to learn new things, Santiago was also brave because he went to search for his destiny and kept going when things didn’t go as he planned and he was also loving because he was always looking for love until he found Fatima, kept thinking about her because he loved her. We saw how Santiago went from being a simple kid to wise men, we saw how he grew up while he was in his journey, how he finished his journey, how he found his treasure and how he finally found true happiness.

I consider my self brave . I always like to try new things that other people wouldn't do. No matter what my destiny may be,or where it is I would look for it because I don't fear new things . I think being brave is very important for people that want to find their destiny. Although they don't know where their destiny is if they are brave there would be more wiling to go after it . It takes bravery to get out of that comfort zone and try something new something that would make you happy . You shouldn't be afraid of failure because if you are wiling to take the chance , there is always a treasure waiting for you . If you are brave enough to start following your destiny you'll find the treasure that is waiting for you to find it .

Jose Febres
Adolescence Visual

I’m really joined to my family I think they are the most important persons in my life. I always travel with them to other countries and we like to do a lot of new things together that’s why I have a lot of pictures of them. One of my hope for the future is that there is no more global warming as well as wars and poverty , what I am most scare right now is global warming because is something that if we don’t act know it will be too late. I really admire Johan Santana he is a baseball player he plays in the New York Mets I really like him because he is such a good pitcher and his from Venezuela. The things I like to do are play sports and sleep and the things I don’t like to do are do homework and stuff like that. The things that I like about adolescence is that you get more responsibilities as an adult . I always thought that adolescence was just a time line between 13 and 18 but know I realize that is much more than that everything changes, your body, feelings etc….

most memorable moment

The most memorable moment this year was when I first got my new dog so I wouldn't be alone anymore . The times I was alone I had someone that was with me all the time

If we do nothing about the water crisis by 2020 we won't have water to drink and all the plants ,trees would die and we also could die because there is nothing to drink so we need to do something now before is too late.
I just came form my Vacations in Venezuela and you won't belief what I found in the beach , it was a bottle but not just a normal bottle it had shells outside of it and it seemed old and dirty so I wondered in this some guy throwing his trash in the sea or an old bottle with a note inside so I started wondering about a guy lost in an island looking for help or maybe a pirate letter , I don't know, after all this thinking I realized that I can just open the bottle and see whats inside, so I tried opening it normally but it was really hard so I try plan B I took the bottle and throw it to the rocks and there was nothing but anyways it was fun to throw the bottle to the rocks.

The trees in front of my house
The grass I lay on when Im bored
The beautiful clovers that brings me luck
The delicious grapes that I eat for lunch
And the beautiful field I play my favorite sport on-soccer.

I'm the lights of the city the winds of the seas

on my spring break I did not do much, all I did was sleep and watch TV .Well the only day I did something interesting , I went to F1 race , There a lot of people from other countries that came to Malaysia to watch the race . The best part about the F1 races are the noise and when they crash and the driver it's alive . Well it started raining in the race and all the cars started drifting and drifting which was fun to watch but anyways the race got cancelled because it was raining too much and the track was flooded but nevermind I had fun.
